This is mine and Ryan's interview with a MSU student we met at the lake named Cameron. Cameron looooved music. In the background you can hear some ducks quacking and people running by, just some random nat sounds.

I really enjoyed interviewing and getting to know my partner Ryan Geer. He is soooooo interesting and very cool.

Weird Photoshop Pictures...

Haha, I just noticed that my photoshop pictures look really weird and nothing like they looked like in photoshop. It looks like they just got a little messed up in the posting process... Sorry guys! But photoshop was very easy to use and alot of fun.

More Photoshop Pictures

With these next three photos I did the same thing, I cropped the image close to the person in the photo. I also had to adjust the lighting again. Using photoshop was extremely easy.

With these two pictures, I tried to crop closely to the people in the picture. I also tried to make sure that they weren't too dark or too light. Photoshop made it easy to get the exact picture that I wanted.

Big Gay Ice Cream Truck

This is a story about the "Big Gay Ice Cream Truck." I thought it was a very amusing story and I edited it with Audacity.

To make the length one minute, I cut out alot of the parts where he was talking to people off the street. I left in the description by the reporter and some of the parts where the man is describing why he decided to operate the truck. I had to leave in the end where the reporter is talking about "rainbow sprinkles" because I just thought that was too funny and it tied the whole story together so nicely.

Tajik Jimmy Audio Clip

In this clip I edited out some of the parts of the story where Tajik is actually singing. I thought is got a little annoying after a while, haha. But at the same time, I thought it was important to leave just enough of his singing in so that the listeners get an idea of why so many were entertained by this singer.

Learning Audacity

I was very impressed with the Audacity program. At first glance, it looks very complex, like something that would take weeks to figure out, but it turned out to be simple. Once you learn all the little tools in the program, it is very easy to cut, add, and manipulate your sound byte.

 My first editing project was over about a singer called Tajik Jimmy. The original length was tow minutes, but our job was to cut it down to one minute. With the program, it was extremely simple to zoom in on the parts that I wanted to cut and get the sound that I was looking for. 

Learning From Ira Glass

I think that Ira Glass did a great job at explaining the importance of making news personal. I thought it was interesting how he explained in the third youtube video that using a normal voice is important because it helps people relate with you and your story more easily. I always thought that when on the news you had to speak in a certain way, similiar to a radio voice. But after hearing him mention that, it makes sense.

Something else that I learned was the importance of choosing the right story. I had no idea that some people's jobs are just picking out a story for the reporters.

Something that I already had an idea about what the difference between writing news for broadcasting and writing news for any other form of media. It is extremely important that broadcast news is personal because you don't hear information the same way that you read information.

Using Multimedia in My Career

Right now I am not really sure what  career path I would like to take, but I am leaning towards broadcasting. I think it would be interesting to be either a reporter or a photojournalist and both rely heavily on multimedia. 

For a career in broadcasting, visuals are always important. What the viewers see let them know how they should feel about the topic in discussion. It also holds their interest. 

The audio and music that you might set to the background is also important.  If the audio isn't good then viewers will probably get frustrated and lose interest quickly. 

So all in all, I think knowing how to line the appropriate audio with the appropriate footage is extremely important.
